Plans for a surfing wave pool on the Gold Coast

Ben Mackay, the co-founder of Penny Skateboards has recently met with Gold Coast City Council officers to plan the construction of a surfing wave pool. Tunnell Vision Wave Pools Pty Ltd, which was created by Ben Mackay and Joshua Neale are expected to lodge plans by the end of next year.

The Gold Coast Bulletin has learned that this company would like to install the wave pool on 95 hectares of land just off the Pacific Motorway, on Stapylton’s McPherson Road. Peter Catanzariti from Ray White Upper Coomera believes that this project is an excellent idea that will attract people from across the country and internationally.

The construction of the wave pool is expected to cost anywhere between $10 – 30 million dollars. The planners believe that wave pools are the future of surfing because the waves can be altered to make it easier or more challenging.

The man-made wave pool works by using an underwater hull pulled through the water to create the perfect wave on demand. The bid is expected to go through Council planning between March and June next year, and construction is expected to start within the next year.
