Celebrating Australia Day

On Australia Day we celebrate the lifestyle, democracy, the land and the freedoms we enjoy. In particular, we celebrate our people.  The 26th of January is a very important date for many Australians, and the meaning of Australia day has changed over time. Today, Australia Day is where we celebrate this nation and its diverse people. More than half of Australians participate in Australia Day events organised by state governments and local councils. In addition to this, over 16,000 people become Australian citizens on Australia Day.

To celebrate Australia Day in true Gold Coast style, there are a number of events that have been organised for the day. At Broadwater Parklands, an Australia Day event will begin at 4pm and will feature a bunch of local music talent as well as an all-nations food truck feast. The event is free and will conclude at 8pm with a magnificent firework display which is expected to rival New Year’s Eve. There will be no parking at Broadwater Parklands on the day, so celebrators will be asked to park in Southport as the area is exempt from parking fees on public holidays. Some parking areas that are close to Broadwater Parklands are Cloyne Road, Marshall Lane, Mal Burke Car Park and Carey Park Car Park.

Evandale Parklands will also be holding a free event from 9am to 3pm on Australia Day. Another event that will be jam-packed with fun, food and entertainment with a number of attractions for the whole family. There will be excellent live music, the Wheel of Death stunt show, cooking demonstrations, JJ Richards Wood Chopping and the Griffith University Gift Footrace. Free parking and ride are available from the Gold Coast Turf Club.
